MARLIN'S SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS, INC. (MSI) is an Iowa Private Investigative Agency located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Established in 1994, MSI offers a wide variety of Investigative Services for Attorneys, Insurance Companies, Businesses, Private Individuals and other Private Investigative Agencies. Although we are located in Cedar Rapids, we work with clients all over Iowa and the entire U.S. Our investigators are licensed, bonded, and insured. The State of Iowa requires all private investigators be licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Services
We are experienced in several areas of investigation, and you can read examples of our prior casework. MSI is experienced in criminal, civil and domestic legal matters and we have provided criminal defense investigations for both state and federal court matters. We have also conducted personal injury, workers' compensation, domestic surveillances and other civil investigations, providing video and still photographic evidence for use in domestic matters, such as divorces and child custody hearings.
Are GPS trackers legal in Iowa? Yes, they are legal for Iowa private investigators (PI) to use as long as it is for a legal and legitimate use. GPS trackers are unlawful and illegal to use by anyone if they are for the intent to stalk, intimidate, harm, annoy or alarm another person without a legitimate purpose.
Following his graduation from the University of Iowa in 1989, Jeff spent 3 years as a Kansas City metro area police officer. He then attended Central Missouri State University where he received a second degree in Mathematics Education and his teaching certification. He taught high school mathematics and coached football & basketball for four years in the state of Iowa.

I am beyond impressed with Jeff Marlin! He doesn't play around! I reached out to him earlier in the day, needing his process service. We had a quick phone conversation as to what I needed and the deadline we had to meet for the summons to be served. Three hours later, Jeff calls me back and tells me the person has been served! With my jaw dropped, I thanked him for his great work with completing the service.
Even in the midst of that part of Iowa recovering from a disastrous storm, he got the job done without a hitch! Best part of this experience was him telling me moment by moment how the person was served. I felt like I was there with him! Thank you again, Jeff! If anyone is looking for a process server, Jeff is your man! He will not disappoint!

I have utilized the services of Marlin's Special Investigations since 1998 (23 years). My brother was murdered in Linn County, Iowa in 1998. After speaking with the law enforcement agency investigating his case, we met with our family attorney Jim Bradley, of Bradley and Riley. Jeff and his team are excellent at what they do. I've hired Jeff many times, and each time, he does what it takes to get the information I need to make my case. A colleague recommended Marlin's Special Investigations to help me track down a defendant who was avoiding service. Time was running short on my service deadline.
